First Amphibious Assault Memorial

Battle of Nassau

Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of America's first amphibious assault on foreign soil.

Continental Marines & Sailors — Nassau, Bahamas — March 3–4, 1776

A Monument of Historic Firsts

Pompano Beach will be home to the only monument in the Continental United States dedicated to the Battle of Nassau—the first amphibious assault where American forces raised our colors for the first time on foreign soil—and the southernmost monument to any American Revolutionary event in the Continental U.S.

Background

America's First Overseas Military Operation

On 3–4 March 1776, the Continental Marines and Sailors conducted the first amphibious assault on foreign soil in the Bahamas, seizing military supplies and making history as America's first overseas landing during the early days of the Revolutionary War.

Thanks to 246 generous donors, we raised $295,825 to make this memorial a reality. Construction has begun, and we look forward to dedicating this important memorial on March 14, 2026.

Why Pompano Beach?

Pompano Beach is the closest logical location on the US mainland to the historic landing site. Its location and patriotic community make it an ideal place to honor the legacy of the Continental Marines and Sailors.
